It’s been a year since Holmfirth Civic Hall Community Trust took over the running and management of Holmfirth Civic Hall, and things are starting to happen!
Significant repair and improvement works will begin soon, a refurbishment programme is underway, and a team of professionals have been brought in to get the Civic buzzing once again.
The usual programme of regular events has continued during the first year – the variety of weekly events such as fitness, dance, meditation and weight loss. Later in the year the Civic will welcome back, amongst others, Holme Valley Brass Band Contest, Holmfirth Festival of Folk, Holmfirth Music Festival and Turn Again Theatre.
But the Trust want to bring new and different things to the Civic as well – a Gin Festival, after last year’s successful fund raiser, and later in the year opera will be coming to the Valley. There are a whole host of other events being considered – children’s activities for the summer holidays, a community cinema, a charity fashion show, comedy nights and tribute acts to name just a few!
Volunteers have been at the heart of what has been achieved so far and the Trust is very grateful for all the support it has received to date. The Hall is a wonderful facility, but it takes a lot of looking after and volunteers are always welcome, with a recruitment drive currently underway to bring in even more support.
The Trust’s vision is to make Holmfirth Civic Hall an inclusive, cohesive and sustainable community asset – ‘run in our community, by our community and for our community’. Running the hall as a registered charity, the Trust will be responsible for growing the profile and the usage of the Hall and investing any surpluses back into the building, its maintenance and upkeep, ensuring its viability as a community facility for the long term.
The saving of the Civic Hall, for the benefit of the community, has happened because of the help and support of a large number of people and organisations – not any one group. The Trust would like to thank everyone for their support so far, especially Holme Valley Parish Council which has provided significant financial support, allowing it to plan for the future with confidence. Without the support of so many, all this wouldn’t have been possible.
